Fred Dewayne Larson was from Pollock S. Dakota. Born in June of 49 he arrived in country on Jan 15 1970. He was assigned to C Battery 1/20th on Bronco and volunteered for the field as an Arty RTO . He arrived in Delta along with LT Gardner in March of 70 after the loss of arty FO LT Knovac. He became my RTO.
Fred was a vary quite home spun guy from the heart land. He had a strong sense of religion and spoke often of his family and friends back home. He had once told me that being in the army and vietnam was the longest and farthest he had ever been away from home. I took this to mean he had never traveled beyond the Dakota's. Fred was so down to earth and rooted in his beliefs that he knew exactly what he was going to do and where he was going in his life upon his return home.
Fred died on April 24th along with LT Gardner, Capt. Fowler. I escorted his body and that of LT Gardner back to bronco for no other reason than simply.   He was my friend.
